Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 15-bed, state-of-the-art, step-down unit located on the second floor of the hospital. This means we provide care for patients who have either been discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or need a higher level of care than a general medical/surgical floor. These include post-surgical patients as well as medical patients with complications from diabetes, respiratory issues, and kidney failure.

Like our adjacent ICU, all nurses in our PCU are trained in Advanced Life Support and Basic Arrhythmia (heart) care. Each room is equipped with telemetry or hardwire electrocardiography (ECG) to measure heart function, pulse oximetry to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring. We involve patients and family members to develop an appropriate treatment process in collaboration with the registered nurse, physician, social worker, dietician, respiratory therapist, and other ancillary care providers to address key physiological and psychosocial needs.
