Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation involves working with patients to help improve the lives of those with breathing problems. The program focuses on exercise conditioning, strength training, breathing retraining, education, and emotional support for patients. The goal of pulmonary rehabilitation at Jennie Stuart is to improve each patient's quality of life by:

  • Regulating and diminishing the symptoms and complications of breathing issues
  • Increasing their level of independence and physical activity
  • Reducing the need for hospitalization
Multidisciplinary Services

  • The respiratory therapy component of the program focuses on respiratory function, breathing re-training, and patient education
  • The therapy portion addresses activities of daily living, including easier ways of doing things
  • The therapy segment teaches therapeutic exercises, gait training therapy, and ways to increase strength and endurance
Conditions appropriate for pulmonary rehab services include:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder
  • Emphysema
  • Lung cancer
  • Lung transplant/resection
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
Expected benefits

If you are a candidate for pulmonary rehabilitation, you will mostly likely have a better quality of life once you complete these treatments. You will be able to do more for yourself, which renews self-confidence and enables you to be more involved in daily activities. You will be able to breathe better, strength and endurance will increase, and any anxiety or depression regarding your illness will greatly diminish. Our services are covered under many health plans, including the federal Medicare program.
